The Dalles, Oregon was once known as the end of the overland Oregon Trail. From here, pioneers would load their wagons onto rafts or barges and float the remainder of the way to their future homes in Oregon. Until they started their trip down river, these hardy pioneers camped in tents or in their wagons. Today visitors to the Columbia River Gorge have a variety of lodging choices including hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, inns, resorts, and private vacation rentals.
