The volcanic ash that once covered the area around Hood River contributed to the rich fertile ground now found in the area. As a result of the fertile soil and the significant rainfall, the area is home to a multitude of brilliantly blooming wildflowers. Nearly everywhere you go and everywhere you look, your eyes will be treated to red, blues, yellows, whites and other colorful hues – as well, as the fragrances filling the air.

The mountain slopes and valleys are filled with all types of white, yellow and orange lilies, all shades of red paintbrush, yellow blossoms of the chickweed monkey flower, and the purple flowers of the mission bell – among many others.
