Mount Hood Oregon Wildflowers

Wildflowers

The volcanic ash that once covered the area around Hood River contributed to the rich fertile ground now found in the area. As a result of the fertile soil and the significant rainfall, the area is home to a multitude of brilliantly blooming wildflowers. Nearly everywhere you go and everywhere you look, your eyes will be treated to red, blues, yellows, whites and other colorful hues – as well, as the fragrances filling the air.

The Columbia River Gorge and the area known as the Hood River Valley provide a wealth of beautiful, natural scenic wonders. In the area you will see river views, cascading waterfalls, rugged, rocky cliffs, snowcapped mountain peaks, lush, dense forests, farmland and wide carpets of wildflowers.

Regardless of which route you take, you will be surrounded by awe-inspiring beauty. The seasons are marked by significant changes in the flora, but the most spectacular is the return year after year, spring after spring, of the numerous varieties of wildflowers.

The mountain slopes and valleys are filled with all types of white, yellow and orange lilies, all shades of red paintbrush, yellow blossoms of the chickweed monkey flower, and the purple flowers of the mission bell – among many others. Come to the Columbia River Gorge and the Hood River Valley and treat your senses to the sites and smells of the gorgeous wildflowers.
