What to Bring
It goes without saying that what type of clothing your pack in preparation for any vacation depends a great deal on the season and the expected weather. So when you are trying to decide what to bring on your vacation to the Hood River area of Oregon, do a little investigating to determine the expected temperatures and seasonal norms. If your vacation plans include activities on or around Mount Hood, remember that portions of this mountain stay snow covered all year, so plan appropriately.
Hood River Country in Oregon is one of those rare places where you can ski in the morning and golf in the afternoon. Within a short distance, you can spend time on the snow covered terrain of Mount Hood and then play a round or two on the lush greens of the golf courses near the Columbia Gorge and the City of Hood River.
This then becomes one of those destinations, where determining what to bring becomes largely dependent on the types of activities that you plan to enjoy while here. It's a "no brainer" that colder activities require warm clothes and warmer activities require less warm clothes. It's highly unlikely that you would wear a parka, hat and gloves to enjoy windsurfing or kite boarding on the Columbia River. In like manner, it might be adventurous, but not too practical to try skiing or mountain climbing Mount Hood in your swimming suit, wet suit and without shoes!
If you are anticipating a particular activity with a guide or plan to take a tour, check with the outfitter for a list of what to bring. The majority of outfitters and guides have a standard list that can include many items that you may otherwise not think of.
Once you have figured out what to bring, just pack your bags, travel to the area and begin to enjoy a fun filled vacation in Hood River County.
